How many belts are in a pack?
At AIS we sell our belts as individual pieces so there are no "packs" unless specified otherwise. Most of our belts do require you to order in specific multiples to make best use of raw materials. You will find quantity breaks on most of our products. In the example at left, you'll see that by ordering in multiples of 6 you can save as much as 20% off the individual price. The minimum quantity will vary based on the width of the belt.
I see you have two weights of Aluminum-Oxide. What's the difference?
Abrasive Industrial Supplies offers Aluminum-Oxide abrasive in both J-Weight and X-Weight material. J-Weight is also called "jean-weight" and the backing of the belt is about the weight of blue jean material. It is more flexible than X-weight material, which is quite stiff. Check our our blog post, Abrasive Belt Backings, for a more in-depth description of the various backing weights and materials available.
What's the difference between the Y3 and Y5 types of Zirconia-Alumina belts?
AIS offers two types of Zirconia-Alumina abrasive belts — belts with Grind Aid Lube applied (Y3 or R203) and belts without (Y5 or R205). Why? What's the difference?
We've already described the abrasive without lube. It's a tough, dense abrasive grain that is great for heavy stock removal on metals. So, why add the lube layer to the abrasive? For one thing, the belts with grind cooler, causing less heat to build up in the piece you're working on. Since Zirconia is used most of the time on metals, it reduces the risk of burn marks on the metal.
The Grind Aid Lube is also designed to prevent the belts from loading up during use. Great news, you won't have to stop to clean the belt as often!
How are your joints made?
Great question! Our abrasive belts are made using angled butt joints. Joints are glued, taped and pressed so they will stand up to daily use.
Do I need to have an account before I can order on your website?
Absolutely not! You will be given the opportunity to create an online account when you place an order, but it is not required to complete your order.
We recommend creating an online account when ordering because that will make it easier and faster for you to reorder in the future. Your billing and shipping information will already be entered, saving you time. An online account will also keep track of what you have ordered in the past.
